What's the orange hat about?

We’ve been looking at full motorcycle Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a number of years now, with most of the big brands having something to offer and in particular Knox who would appear to have been the first to produce this kind of kit. Now Danish company, REV'IT! Have thrown their hat into the ring.

This kind of clothing could be referred to as the crossover of motorcycling clothing with a host of protection, yet casual enough to wear while drinking a latte on the southside of Dublin. Snuck into the design is all that we could want from a bike jacket with protection in the form of AA impact-abrasion rating and CE-level 1 SEESMART armor in all the right places, elbows and shoulders with room for a back and chest protector as well as being waterproof thanks to the companies own hydrate fabric.

With this gear being inspired by the kit that serious latte drinkers on the ski slopes of Europe wear on their adventures they also look the part. On the Altair H2O Jacket the main opener is a diagonal zip by YKK and is the AquaGuard one that keeps the rain out. This piece of alternative cool, while it has been seen on other brands, Alpinestars in particular, is fresh enough to be stand out from the crowd. While it looks like there are two pockets on the front there is, actually, only one. What looks like the top one is actually a cleverly designed vent that is held either open or closed with magnets and is complimented with a second one on the back of the coat. The hood is a really nice touch when it comes to capturing that ‘urban cool’ look.

There are more and more companys producing what looks like casual clothing. This can only be a good thing as so many riders avoid wearing good kit, particularly when commuting through the city and on the way to work as the traditional motorcycle clothing is just too cumbersome and getting changed into more suitable clothing in the office toilet isn’t something to be repeated.
