A new array of colours and new technology

Madras Red, A cool colour for a cool bike

That Classic 350 from Royal Enfield has had a redo for the coming season. The bike is a true modern classic, with an uncanny likeness to its grandad, a bike called the G2 from the 1950s. That decade may well be looked upon as a pretty grim period, a cold war being waged in a fractured world, a broken economy, some really awful music and American fashion making inroads in Europe. But at least the bikes looked cool.

Since then the company has metaphorically had the rug pulled from under it before ownership, production and management moved to India. The editorial standards demanded of me prohibit me from comparing the people who managed the company when it was in the UK to the people who voted for Brexit. I am, therefore, not going there. No idea what's going on here

One is ready to ride ones motorcycle

That bike, while it looks like a classic, has everything that we could expect from a new machine. ABS is on both ends and is a ‘dual channel’ affair. If you have tiny little elf like hands, as one of our pushier contributors does, or big traffic cop-esque sirloin stake type contraptions hanging off the end of your wrists, the good news is that the clutch and brake levers are now fully adjustable.

There’s a whole lot of LED going on with a headlamp, a pilot lamp and indicators all being the beneficiaries of the new technology. There’s a C type USB port and, disturbingly, they’ve added a gear indicator to the clocks. My uncle Tommy says that back in the day a gear indicator would have been unthinkable. “If you can’t count to six and back down to one again without a little light telling you which number you’re at then you’ve got no business pushing a wheelbarrow never mind riding a bike”.

Other than these updates the bike remains the same as the ’24 model. There is, however, a brace of new colours available and they’ve got some really cool names. There’s “Emerald”, “Medallion Bronze”, “Madras Red” (I’m pretty sure that that’s the one that I want). The new choices are rounded out with the “Stealth Black”.

Lets ride out on our motorcycles and find some poor people to mock..

The Big daddy Don-Bodine of Royal Enfield, B Govindarajan, CEO, has been quoted as saying; “The Classic 350 is a true embodiment of Royal Enfield’s pure motorcycling DNA and has remained the purest expression of elegance, fine craftsmanship, ever-lasting style and beauty. Needless to say, that it has remained true to its character and essence through all these years, and it has also remained approachable for a wide range of riders. We have ensured that it continues to be all of this, as we launch the Classic 350 with new feature upgrades while maintaining accessibility and a plethora of personalisation options available through our range of Genuine Motorcycle Accessories.”

The bike is available for BikeWorld in Dublin as are the afore mentioned accessories. Talk to Neil on 014566222.
