Triumphs New Speed Twin 1200

Good looking and very cool

Sometimes it’s great to just ride something classic. A bike with simple good looks and a bit of heritage. Kawasaki have theirs, the Z900, Hondas CB 1000 stands out, Yamaha have the entire XSR range. But Triumph do it so very well. For the coming year they have a new Speed Twin on the way and it promises to be quite the bike.

Great looks, high spec

While it’s always great to have the latest technology in our bikes, it’s also great to have them look like they don’t! The new Twin promises “sports performance and agile handling”. Both the standard bike and the RS version make a shade over 100bhp the former may actually be true. The latter inherits it’s frame and the rest from the Speed Triple, a pretty awesome bike by anyone’s standards. The latter may also be an honest assessment of their own bike when Triumph say it is.

While both machines sit on the same chassis the RS has a slightly better spec with, amongst other things, adjustable suspension.

The RS has better Sec and an orange tank!

The looks and styling are perfect. As a bike the new machine has taken that classic styling and, once again, made it their own.

The engine is a 1200cc parallel twin. It puts out a very usable 83 ft pounds of torque and 103.5 bhp. It’s going to be easy to look after with service intervals at every 16,000 kilometres. The bike will be here in the next few weeks. See www.triumph.ie for all the details.
