ZERO add updated DSR /SR models

More powerful, and a better, longer lasting ride...

Stunning acceleration

Our good friends at the U S of A's newest and most progressive motorcycle manufacturer, Zero, have been working hard with a redesign for their DSR and SR steeds for 2024.

The march to the future of motorcycling has been led by a relatively small company by the industries standards. They are to be commended for pushing on with development and reinvigorating current models such as these two rather than just sitting on their laurels and not bringing their range on as some other manufacturers have.

The DSR is the companies dual sport machine. For this year the ladies and gentlemen in California have upgraded the battery as well as the motor. They’ve finished the job with a fresh new look for the well-established bike. Rather cleverly, it’s available as an A2 legal machine that can be upgraded to a full licence if and when the rider is ready.

An EV version of a Yamaha Tracer

Having played on the DSR/X for a few months earlier this year I can confirm that the rider does, indeed, need to be ready. There’s a staggering 170Nm of torque at a twist of the wrist on these new two wheeled EVs. With no gear box and not even a few seconds of lag as the engine on a ‘real’ bike turns over they’re the polar opposite to the all-electric commuters that we’ve seen in this part of the world for the last ten years or so.

The SR, meanwhile, now has an impressive 260 kilometre range in the city and a 165 kilometre range out in the wilds. Even though it’s an A 2 licence bike it still produces 140 Nm of that magic torque.

Maintenance free belt drive

And there’s great news for those of us who break things. Frequently brake the unbreakable. All of the range are graced with a full five year warranty.

Now for a modest contribution riders can avail of a premium add on package. This includes a 6kW Rapid Charger, which tops up the bike at three times the normal charging speed. Then there’s the performance upgrade package. This adds to the motorcycle’s capabilities with more speed, more power, and even more torque.

No more petrol!

Keith Reynolds, sales Manager at Franklin Motorcycles in Dublin, said: “We are really excited about the launch of the new DSR and SR. It marks a really exciting time to be a part of ZERO, with an expanded  range and even better motorcycles which have already shown to be such a success. The EV bike market is, by our own admission, a challenging space to be, but we are consistently proving doubters wrong time and time again with technology we are developing, the product we have on offer, and the myths we love to bust!”
