Everyone loves a winner
Sveg gloves are named after a town in rural Sweden. It’s small, only 2,500 people live there, and incredibly cute with lots of wooden buildings and older people driving perfectly maintained twenty year old Volvos. The local industries are forest management and hydroelectricity. There are actually two dams on the local manmade lake, Lake Svegssjön. The dam is an impressive 18 metres high! Interestingly the climate is quite moderate for somewhere this northerly and during the summer the roads surrounding the town offer plenty for the discerning motorcyclist to enjoy.
The dam in Sveg. Sveg gloves, meanwhile, are waterproof
Accordingly Lindstrands have named a pair of their gloves after the town. Being of Swedish design and attention to every last detail has won them a Motorrad Magazine product award. Motorrad Magazine is German publication which takes its product reviews incredibly seriously.
They’re a short cuff glove which makes them ideal for city wear as well as longer summer journeys. The finger and knuckle armour makes them look very cool in arachnid kind of way. While we do appreciate safety and build quality, we are also quite vain. Very vain actually. The first reason why we like them is because their styling. That and they’re called Sveg.
After I’ve finished gazing at my hands and wondering why I never got a job as a fashion model, I actually read the label and I’m impressed and relived to see that they’re waterproof. Lindstrands have worked very hard to create a waterproof membrane that allows the glove to breathe and be windproof as well as keeping the rain out. Keeping the lining in place thereby not allowing it to come away when the rider takes the gloves off is a masterstroke.
Comfort in the palm of your hand
On a practical front, the cuff is closed with a velcro flap. They also come with a touch screen ability thanks to using NUDUD technology. This allows the wearer to post pictures and short videos of themselves and their new Suzuki GS8R on the Wicklow Gap on Instagram without taking their gloves off.
Sveg gloves are also made of goatskin. Using goatskin is good for several reasons. Goat milk is disgusting, only hipster types drink it and even they don’t really like it, they just do it because it makes them feel special. Another thing about goats is that they smell awful. Really, really bad. But the main reason for using goatskin, other than killing goats, is that their hides are really subtle and make for very soft, very wearable gloves. If you’ll pardon the pun, they feel like a second skin.
Because they’re made with such a light hide and well placed and well-integrated armour they allow for easy and natural movement of ones fingers. This, in turn, makes it easy to wave at older drivers in older Volvos as you pass them on sunny Sunday mornings.
At only €129.00 these CE certified, very stylish, gloves are well worth the money. They even come with a three year warranty. Talk to anyone in Motokingdom, Crossans, Freemans, Kennedys, Lee Honda or Megabikes about a pair for yourself.
