The all-new Skawl Cup

Da dum, Da dum,- da dum. Que up the jaws soundtrack, Shark have a new lid. This one is called the Skwal Cup. The helmet takes its design inspiration from the companies trackday and racer favourites, the Aeron GP and has all the style we’ve come to expect from the French home of the ‘casque’. These include a couple of very cool designs, Scott Redding and Johann Zarco replica graphics as well as a rear spoiler. As we now know, if you don’t have a rear spoiler then you probably shouldn’t allowed out on your own anymore.

There is also an open face one called the Skwal Jet Cup. Normally we’d strongly disapprove of open face helmets. However, there are a number of mitigating facts in this case. Paris has a huge fleet of scooters, and they work very well with open lids. The riders are all incredibly beautiful, both the male and female ones and their rugged /gorgeous faces deserve not to be hidden behind a black visor. There’s also the simple fact that, while not impossible, smoking a Galois as your riding along is quite difficult. The same goes for spitting out gum. We’re still not putting pictures of them up.

But back to the full face. It comes with a drop-down dark visor, one of the ones that is housed internally and can be operated with the left hand. The outer one is clear, meets a hi definition optical class one standard and comes with a pinlock anti mist insert. The helmet also comes, as standard, with a Double D closer.

Some people, with cool desks featuring the latest iMac and absolutely no paper of pencils anywhere in sight, designed the Skwal with the help of Computational Fluid Dynamics. This resulted in the spoiler as well as active air vents. All of this contributes to helping the rider avoid looking like a bobble head motorcyclist at any sort of decent speed.

If you’re missing the point about the glorious isolation that the rider of any bike is rewarded with then you can fit it with a comms kit. Sena do the honours in conjunction with Shark and it works via either Mesh or Bluetooth.

The interior is lined with Alvotech Sanitized suede. This makes for a soft, loving experience. It’s also antibacterial which makes it much more pleasant to put your head into on the day after you came home all perspiry and such. To that end the cheek pads can be taken out for a wash. Glasses fit nicely and it comes in sizes all the way from extra small to double extra-large.
